About the Event

On Artificial Intelligence

This year we are focusing on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on our society and on design. Join us for an interactive discussion around the topic of AI.

Join us at the stunning setting of Naughton Gallery, Queen's University Belfast where we will be joined by a panel for our discussion.

Our panel is:

Jordan McDonald, Kainos

Jordan McDonald is a Software Engineer working for Kainos, he has had exposure to a range of technologies. This includes Artificial Intelligence where he has experience both as a practitioner (particularly towards the application of AI towards computer vision) and also as an educator on this topic through having significant involvement in both the creation and delivery of AI Camp.

Ben Bland, Sensum

Ben has overall responsibility for operations at Sensum – cultivating the success of all their systems, processes, people and projects. He works with implementing and maintaining adaptive strategies for the optimal performance of their teams and the products and campaigns they develop, across all company divisions.

Ben's background is broad, but broadly digital, having come from a background of online marketing and e-commerce, through digital strategy consulting, to wider tech startup consulting & entrepreneurship. Ben has spent most of my career between London and Belfast, working within agencies, small-to-medium size businesses, NGOs, and as a freelancer. 

Andrew Bolster, Sensum

Andrew is a Data Scientist with a specialisation in Distributed and Autonomous learning system with a wide range of skills and experiences across technical, business, and entrepreneurial fields.

Andrew completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool as part of an Anglo-French Defence Programme on Autonomous Submarines for Marine Survey and Monitoring. Data Scientist at Sensum, a Belfast based startup building tools for understanding our emotions, behaviours and interactions. Andrew is also one of the founding directors of Farset Labs – very well-known hub for the tech community in Northern Ireland.

David Kane, Farset Labs

David Kane is a co-founder and director of Northern Ireland's first hackerspace, Farset Labs, as well as a doctoral researcher in condensed matter physics at Queen's University Belfast. Farset Labs is a registered charity that aims to be a home for the technical and creative community in Belfast, provide an active programme of STEAM education for all ages and to shape the regional policy regarding technical literacy for children and young people. David's primary area of academic research is in the fabrication of self-assembling nanoarrays for designed plasmonic biosensors and he enjoys having a presence in both startup life and academia, conducting a variety of work alongside early-stage companies, with a wide-ranging set of interests as a technologist.
