About the Event
Bogs today are mainly seen as little more than a source of fuel and peat moss. But bogs have stories to tell... Since the end of the last ice age, bogs have been capturing snapshots of the environment. From rain patterns, pollen levels, evidence of flora & fauna (including humans!) and even ash from far-flung volcanoes, bogs provide a window into the history of the environment.
This workshop will introduce you to the types of information archaeologists and palaeoecologists can recover from bogs, with hands-on displays of some of the evidence that we recover to reconstruct the past environment, past climate and past human activity.
